Come sit with me.

I’m Lisa Hammitte — writer, artist, wife, mother, grandmother, nurse anesthetist, and a woman who is still learning what God can do with an ordinary life.
For more than thirty years, much of my life has been spent caring for children and families in some of their most vulnerable moments. But outside the operating room, I’ve always been a storyteller.
Some stories make me laugh. Some still make me cry. And somewhere in most of them, if I look long enough, I can see where God was.
That’s really what this place is about.
Stories. Faith. And real life.
I don’t have a perfectly polished life to teach from.
I have a lived one.
There have been beautiful seasons and hard ones. Family, work, loss, marriage, motherhood, grandmotherhood, mistakes, answered prayers, unanswered prayers, unexpected beginnings, and plenty of moments when I had absolutely no idea what I was doing.
And through all of it, God has been faithful.
I write about those places — sometimes seriously, sometimes with humor, and usually with both.
Because I believe some of the most important things God teaches us happen right in the middle of ordinary life.

The writing
I’m currently writing Good God, It’s Raining…, a memoir about family, faith, grief, love, and the strange way God can be present even when life looks nothing like we expected.
I also write devotionals for people who love Jesus but still have questions, hard days, wandering thoughts, and prayers that don’t always end neatly.
You won’t find many perfect people around here.
You will find grace.
The art

Somewhere along the way, I picked up a paintbrush.
And I kept picking it up.
Painting became another way for me to tell stories — sometimes with words, sometimes with color, sometimes with a cow wearing glasses or a pair of giraffes that simply made me smile.
My artwork is part of this place too, because I don’t think creativity has an expiration date.
You are allowed to begin something new.
Even now.
Especially now.

Still learning after 60
One of the surprises of this season is how much I still want to learn.
Technology. Video. Artificial intelligence. Publishing. Building a business. Making art. Trying things I once would have assumed were for somebody younger or more qualified.
Sometimes I get it right.
Sometimes I make an impressive mess.
I’m sharing that part too.
After 60 is where I talk about what I’m learning, what actually works, what doesn’t, and what it looks like to keep growing when the world might suggest you should be slowing down.
I’m not interested in becoming younger.
I’m interested in becoming more fully who God made me to be.
Why “Come sit with me”?
Because that’s how I want this place to feel.
Not like I’m standing on a stage talking at you.
More like there’s another chair beside me.
We can talk about faith and family. We can laugh about the ridiculous things that happen in real life. We can grieve what needs grieving. We can learn something new. We can make something beautiful.
And maybe, somewhere in your story and mine, we’ll recognize the same thing:
God was there too.
So come sit with me.
There’ll probably be a little laugh, a little cry, and a whole lot of Jesus.
